Two rooms have been made into one which means the room looks over the back and front of the house so there is plenty of light. The main feature of the room is the wonderful original carved cornice, ceiling rose and the tall ceiling. To enhance this the walls were painted in Taupe with Old White plasterwork and Bleached Canvas on the ceiling.
Annie's design for this room was based around the beautiful original moulding and the proportions of the room and the aim was to make the room chic and classic but with a contemporary edge to it. Taupe, the colour of pigeon feathers, has a lot of depth and complexity and was chosen for the walls. With woodwork and plaster work painted in the soft simplicity of Old White the room looks elegant and calm. Two warm gold chandeliers hang at each end of the room making a harmonious contrast to the walls and making a secondary focus for the room.
The main focus of the room and what you see when you enter is the mantelpiece with its huge French rococo old distresed gold mirror. Against the Taupe painted walls there are a pair of turned candlesticks painted in Old White and a collection of stone, plaster and painted busts and heads in different whites.
With greys and whites as the cool and relaxed colours a small amount of a bright warm colour is needed. The desk is painted in Old Violet with the inside Emperors Silk/Red Beret. On the pair of old French gilded chairs there is red and on the white linen curtains red vintage buttons adorn the leading edge.
The ceiling is painted in Bleached Canvas giving the room depth by adding another neutral .
